CFD–DEM Study on the Removal Performance of Neutrally Buoyant Particles in a Rectangular Cavity

초록

A fully coupled CFD DEM framework that accounts for all interactions between the fluid and particles is - employed to investigate the fluid particle dynamics governing the removal of solid particles from a - rectangular cavity. A parametric study was conducted to examine the effects of the Reynolds number and cavity aspect ratio on the flow structures and particle dynamics. The results revealed that the particle-removal efficiency increased monotonically with increasing Reynolds number and cavity aspect ratio. At high Reynolds numbers, the particle removal process initiated rapidly owing to the strong vorticity and velocity magnitudes. At larger aspect ratios, the enhancement in the removal efficiency was attributed to a more extensive interaction between the main channel flow and cavity interior.
