A Study on Business Diversification and Servitization of Manufacturing Companies

초록

This study conducted an empirical analysis on domestic manufacturing companies that have implemented digital transformation, examining how business diversification and servitization positively influence firm performance. The target companies were 150 manufacturing firms listed on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ from 2019 to 2024, and the study employed fixed-effects regression analysis, mediation effect testing, and moderation effect testing based on publicly disclosed data. The analysis yielded the following results: First, higher levels of business diversification and servitization were found to enhance firm survival through increased revenue contributions. Second, the level of digital transformation was found to contribute to business diversification and servitization. Specifically, when the level of digital transformation exceeded a certain threshold (0.45–0.50), it positively affected both business diversification and servitization. These findings suggest that proactive digital transformation significantly enhances manufacturing firm performance through business diversification and servitization. This study integrates digital transformation as a strategic variable, presenting a new analytical framework for digital–strategy alignment and offering policy implications, suggesting that government-led digital transformation initiatives can effectively impact business diversification and servitization.in manufacturing companies.
