This study proposes an Additive Manufacturing (AM)–structural coupled analysis to accurately predict the mechanical behavior of short-fiber reinforced composite structures manufactured by the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) process with different infill patterns. Equivalent orthotropic material properties of the composite filament were derived using a reverse engineering approach based on experimental tensile tests. In addition, the nozzle path was mapped onto the finite element model to account for variations in mechanical behavior induced by various infill patterns in FDM-printed structures. Tensile specimens with Triangle, Rectangular and Hexagonal infill patterns were considered as numerical examples. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed framework offers an accurate design solution that effectively accounts for changes in internal stress distribution induced by different infill patterns.
