초록
Accurately predicting toothbrush bristle deformation is essential for optimizing toothbrush design. While finite element methods cannot effectively handle multifiber contact, the conventional bonded particle model in the discrete element method suffers from nonsmooth particle surfaces and inter-element discontinuity under tension. This study validated the recently developed bonded sphero-cylinder model (BSCM) as an alternative for single-bristle analysis. A nylon bristle was modeled as a cantilever beam in Altair EDEM using the Hertz– Mindlin contact model, and its performance was evaluated across three cases: nonlinear bending, axial tension, and free vibration. The simulation results were compared with Elastica nonlinear beam theory, Hooke's law, and Euler Bernoulli vibration theory, showing errors below 2.3% in all three cases. These findings confirm that the – BSCM reliably reproduces the static and dynamic behaviors of slender fibers, providing a basis for future simulations of bristle bundles and microfibers.
